59 PM Central Description Summary This position is intended to provide work-based learning opportunities for secondary students under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan through collaboration with targeted school districts, special education programs, local vocational rehabilitation counselors, and business and industry partners.
The Pre-Employment Transition Coordinator is responsible for providing accurate and consist of documentation regarding student progress, work-based learning opportunities, and quarterly reports.
This individual must have the ability to work and manage a high number of individual cases.
This position is grant funded and could expire if grant funds are exhausted and or ended.
Examples of Duties Constant (67-100%) Must be willing to travel.
Facilitate work-based learning experiences that include internships, job shadows, apprenticeships, work experiences, other training, tours, speakers, externships, career fairs, etc.
Provide job exploration counseling to identify work-based learning possibilities for student consistent with their areas of interest, including exploring business with potential career pathways and business sectors consistent with regional workforce demand areas.
Document work results and data collection in reports to IVRS as well as student progress notes like a case manager.
Provide opportunities for a student with a disability to make informed choices about occupations of interest to them by facilitating work-based learning experiences.
Arrange opportunities with local business to include informational or mock interviews for a student with disability providing opportunities for additional counseling for workplace readiness.
Advise students on skills relating to career exploration, career interest alignment postsecondary opportunities for enrollment, and core curriculum planning strategies.
Develop and maintain collaborations with local businesses to create employment opportunities for eligible students with disabilities.
Identify and facilitate opportunities for students to transition as appropriate for paid employment in occupations that match the stated employment goal in their Individual Plan for employment.
Provide workplace readiness training to develop social skills and independent living as well as employment readiness consistent with feedback generated regarding business needs.
Utilized VR and IWD staff to provide training to businesses on disability awareness needs, accommodations, when necessary.
Assist educators in gaining increased exposure to worksite-based learning opportunities and early career connections with business and industry.
This will involve coordinating activities with transition services available throughout the school district as well as local and regional partnerships.
Frequent (34-66%) Participate in discussions with representatives from community colleges, businesses, high schools, economic development, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), parents, and IVRS to develop and improving strategies for students with disabilities to increase independence and access to community, integrated employment.
This could include providing instruction and disseminating information about effective employment practices.
Coordinate with local workforce development boards and one-stop center business to develop work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities.
Occasional (10-33%) Identify and coordinate professional development sessions for teachers that focus on advising skills relating to career exploration, career-interest alignment, and core curriculum planning strategies for secondary students.
Develop customized training opportunities for eligible students with local businesses, enhancing job exploration counseling and workplace readiness training.
Attend meetings.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications A combination of associate's degree and work experience in a related field required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Computer proficiency, excellent organization skills, experience working in a team environment, good communication skills, and exceptional customer service skills required.

Position involves constant (67-100%) sitting and/or standing in an office setting, talking or listening to persons over the phone for face to face, driving, reaching, walking, dexterity, grasping, hearing repetitive motions, viewing computer screen and other various types of close visual work, and observing student activities within the classroom or business setting; frequent (34-66%) kneeling, crouching, pulling, lifting up to 25 pounds; and occasional (10-33%) travel to other centers or off campus facilities to attend meetings or assist in activities.
